Access to Public Records Policy

The library complies with the Indiana Access to Public Records Act (APRA) as codified at IC 5-14-3, some records may be specifically exempted. The Library Board has passed a policy to exempt “library or archival records which can be used to identify any library patron…” Records exempted from public disclosure are governed by IC 5-14-3-4. If in doubt about access to records of the Library, the Library counsel may be contacted. Generally, under the APRA, a person may inspect and copy the public records of any public agency during the regular business hours of the agency, subject to certain exceptions. A request for inspection or copying must (1) identify with reasonable particularity the record being requested; and (2) be, at the discretion of the agency, in writing on or in a form provided by the agency.
